Contrary to earlier reports, WR James Jones Receives Tender

In the last few hours reports from ABC's affiliate in Green Bay, Pat Mayo, claims that Packers wideout James Jones did in fact receive a Restricted Free Agent Tender from the team.

Reports surfaced late last week that stated that FB John Kuhn (no compensaton), K Mason Crosby (2nd round compensation) and OG Daryn Colledge (2nd round compensation) were the only Restricted Free Agents to be tendered. As of Sunday though Mayo is reporting that James Jones himself said that he received a tender from the Packers in the post. During his conversation Mayo said that Jones did not state what round he has been tendered at.

This may end up meaning nothing in the grand scheme of things though, as the new CBA may state that Jones is not eligible to be tendered due to the time he has been in the league. What this does mean is that Green Bay are looking to bring him back to the team for a reasonable price, so as long as teams don't offer Jones number 1 receiver money ( which may happen) he could likely return to the Packers.

Mike McCarthy, Packers agree to extension

The Packers announced on Friday that they have agreed to a 3 year extension with Superbowl winning Head Coach Mike McCarthy. The deal works out at $5 million per year. McCarthy joins several players and coaches and front office personnel that have been extended this off season following their Superbowl run. Coach McCarthy holds a 48-32 win loss record in his 5 years with the team.


The Packers also announced that they have extended all of their assistant coaches through the 2012 season.

Packers looking to trade Barnett

Several sources have said that the Green Bay Packers are looking into trading former starting inside linebacker Nick Barnett.

 Barnett has been a starter in both the 4-3 and 3-4 systems ever since he was drafted 29th overall in the 2003 draft. Over the last couple of seasons though Barnett has had to battle injuries including missing the majority of this year after suffering a season ending arm injury in week 4 against the Detroit Lions. It was this injury that thrust fellow linebacker Desmond Bishop into a starting role and an eventual new contract.

With Brandon Chillar, AJ Hawk and Bishop all on big money contracts at inside linebacker it seems Barnett was always going to be the odd man out.

Charlie Peprah Inks New Deal

Packers strong safety Charlie Peprah signed a contact extension on Friday. The deal is worth $2.3 million over 2 years and is well deserved after having a solid contribution in Green Bay's Superbowl run. Peprah stepped in to start after injury to Morgan Burnett and held off competition from last years starter Atari Bigby. The deal could be compleated due to the 24 hour CBA extension

Restricted Free Agent Tenders Issued

Friday the Packers announced which restricted free agents would be receiving tenders.

2nd round tenders were issued to G Daryn Colledge and K Mason Crosby. This means that the Packers have an option to match a rivaling bid from whichever (if any) team extends contact to these players. If the Packers Decline to match the bid the team will be compensated with a 2nd round draft pick. 


The lowest tender was issued to FB John Kuhn. By using this tender, if the Packers chose not to match a contract offer they would receive compensation of  a draft pick in the round the player was originally selected. As Kuhn was undrafted Green Bay would receive no compensation. 


No tenders were issued to WR James Jones, RB Brandon Jackson, SS Atari Bigby, FB Korey Hall and C/G Jason Spitz. All of these players now become unrestricted free agents and are able to test the open market when the new CBA is agreed upon.
